Ink -jet printers

Image
Ink -jet Printers : They produce images by spraying tiny droplets of ink onto the paper. They have very high quality output and can also produce coloured graphics. These printers are less noisy. The common speed of inkiet printers ' is 300 dpi (dots per inch).

Laser printers

Image
Laser printers : These printers use photocopy technology to print. They have very high speed and are quieter in operation. They produce very high image quality. They are mostly used for DTP purpose. They can handle about 6 to 10 pages of printed material per minute.

Dot Matrix Printer

Image
Dot-Matrix Printers : They are the only impact printers in use nowadays. As they are noisy and do not have good printing quality. they are losing Popularity. Besides text, they are capable of printing charts and graphics. They are relatively economical .These printers have print head with pins on it which print dots on the paper to form characters. The speed oi dot matrix ranges from 50 cps to 400 cps.

What is scanner

Image
SCANNER lt is an input device that optically scans text, images and objects. The scanned data is then converted into a digital image and is displayed on the computer monitor. The . most popular scanner is the desktop scanner, also called the Flatbed scanner, which has a glass window where the document/object is placed for scanning. Another popular category of scanner is the hand held scanner used in libraries, shopping malls etc.

What is mouse

Image
MOUSE The mouse is the most used input and pointing device that lets you select and move items on the screen. The left mouse button is used most of the time. Asingle click of this button selects an item and then clicking again activates the application. The right-click often displays a list of commands on the screen. You can also gain access to Property settings, with right click, . Dragging and dropping makes it easy to move an item on the screen. With this simple technique, one can simply delete, copy and move files in a file manager. Mouse is also used in drawing packages to draw free-hand lines, circles, boxes and other complicated graphic images.

What is ROM

Image
ROM ROM stands for Read Only Memory. It is called so, as the user can only read from it and cannot write into it. It is a non-volatile memory as it stores information permanently and cannot be changed. The primary use of ROM is during the booting, which is the initial program to start up the computer, when power is switched on. Example: An audio-video disk resembles ROM, as the songs once stored on it cannot be changed.

What is Ram

RAM RAM (Random Access Memory) is an important components of memory unit. Whatever information we enter into the computer goes into RAM and remains there as long as we are working in an application: it is a volatile memory as data and instructions are stored temporarily, during its processing and lost forever, when the computer is switched off.

What is keyboard

Image
KEYBOARD A keyboard is the main input device used to input data and instructions into the computer. There are four main types of keys on the keyboard : 1.. Typing keypad: It includes all character symbols (A-Z). 2. Numeric keypad: It includes number keys from 0 to 9. 3. Function keys: They. are 12 keys, from F1 to F12, for performing special tasks. . Fig. 1.3: Keyboard 4. Editing keypad: it comprises of insert, delete, backspace, page up, page down keys, etc.

What is a processor

Image
PROCESSOR : Processor is a chip where a large number of circuit elements are integrated onto a very small piece of silicon. For example, the chip used in a mobile phone serves a number of purposes like making a phone call, listening to a phone, storing phone numbers of different persons, playing games and much more. All these functions are possible because a large numbers of circuit elements are integrated on the chip.

What is mother board

MOTHERBOARD The motherboard is an electronic board found at the bottom of the desktop case or at the side of a tower case. it is the largest circuit board. it has expansion slots for connecting additional circuit boards. A Motherboard has a processor chip, memory chips, and many other logic circuits. It is also called System board and is the most important hardware component of a computer.

Trouble shooting of computer

TROUBLE SHOOTING l Computer is user-friendly However, at times it may cause embarrassment due to negligence of maintenance Trouble shooting is classified into two types. (a) Hardware Trouble Shooting. (b) Software Trouble Shooting. 2. Hardware Trouble Shooting. (a) Check all the cable connections of PC right from power supply (UPS). All the connections to be firm. Earthing resistance for the UPS power supply should be less than 3 ohms. (b) In case any hardware problem, the error message will be displayed in the monitor with error code. Do accordingly as per instructions displayed in the monitor. (c) Computer reboots on its own indicated that some of the cables are not engaged properly. Refit it properly. 3. Software Trouble Shooting. (a) In case if the system is not booting, one have to boot it with bootable floppy disk, which has system files to make the computer _ function. ' (b) In case system facing difficulty, press F8 function key. The interactive booting menu will a...

Introduction of Internet

INTRODUCTION TO INTERNET 1. Internet is a vast network of computer networks. Born in 1964, the internet is a brain child of Paul Barren of the US Defence Research "Laboratory, is a standards based network of networks that enables diverse computers working in varying system environments, to communicate with each other. The real power of internet came to the fore when Tim Berner Lee created an internet application called world wide web (WWW) based on Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) in march 1989 at European Particle Physics Lab in Germany, which supports graphic and interactive content. 2. Types of Internet connections : (a) Email connectivity. (b) Dial-up shell account connectivity. (c) Dial-up complete connectivity (also called TCP/IP connectivity. (d) Leased line connectivity. 5. Components of Internet :  (a) Computer. (b) Modem Modulator & Demodulator. Modem is one of the most important devices, which determines how fast or slow your Internet connection will b...

Memories - Primary and Secondary

MEMORIES PRIMARY & SECONDARY Types of Memories 1. ln general. the memory system attached to a computer can be divided into two major sections referred to as the ‘main’ or ‘primary memory and the ‘backing’ or secondary memory. The main or primary is used hold the program being executed and any data currently in use The backing memory is used for  storing data and program curretly not in use. The general requirements of the main memory are that it should provide rapid access to data while allowrng a reasonably large storage capacity. Backing storage is requrred to provide enormously large amounts of storage. but speed of data access may be relatively slow. Primary Memomy ROMS. The Read Only Memory (ROM) [8 the Simplest kind at memory. It is equivalent to a group of registers. each permanently storing a word. By applying control Signal we can read the word in any memory location. ("read“ means to make the contents of memory location appear at the output terminals of th...

Computer input and output devices

INPUT & OUTPUT DEVICES Key Board   A keyboard is a most common input device. A computer keyboard looks very much like an ordinary Typewriter keyboard, which is familiar to all of us. A computer keyboard in addition to the letter and number keys of ordinary typewriters has some special keys for special functions. A computer’s CPU can understand only electrical signals (coded pulses). When we press any key on the keyboard, the key sends a series of electrical pulses to the computer. The pattern of these pulses presents a code for that particular character. The computer receives it, interprets it and it‘ is stored in the memory. Printers Types of Printers. Printers can be divided into two major categories; Impact Printers and Non-impact Printers. Impact printers are those printers in which printing of a character is achieved by striking of hammers or pins through a ribbon to deposit carbon or ink onto the paper. Non-impact printers on the other hand are those printers, w...
